Recently I changed where the podcast enclosures for MabryOnline.org lived. They had to be relocated to a new server. Apparently, while the transition seemed to work just fine, that process didn't go very smoothly, and the RSS feed with its associated podcast files was a complete train wreck. If you tried to subscribe to the iTunes feed or download any of the podcasts, you know it didn't work. Special thanks to John, out in Colorado, for pinpointing and thus helping me resolve the issue.
So Podcast Central should be a happy camper again.
As I revisited those media files, I was struck with what a positive and varied experience publishing this podcast series was. In addition to numerous podcasts about learning and the film festival, you will find student forum candidates being interviewed, an interview with one of the feeder elementary school principals, band concerts, the orchestra on TV, interviews with our top readers at Mabry, an interview with a parent, parent open house meetings, interviews with students who accomplished something of note, student beginning of the year meetings with the principal, interviews to highlight the professional of the year, podcasts highlighting visitors from around the world, the science fair contenders, the math awards contenders...
I mention this not because I think we did everything the way all schools everywhere should be doing it—not at all. I mention this to give you ideas this summer to plan for ways you can use the power of this technology to enrich your learning community with pride, joy, and a sense of personal empowerment. Connecting students to relevant, participatory learning while they produce that in which they take great pride is an indescribably rewarding experience for both educators and their students. I hope that Podcast Central, with over 100 examples, will give you many compelling ideas to take this simple tool and make it your own!
When you do, share your successes with me! I would love to tell your stories.
